Alexander Skarsgård is big. Very big. But that much was apparent even before GQ.com meets all 6’4″ of him in the flesh at a central London hotel, because when we announced on Twitter we were set to interview him we received an astonishing number of replies – mostly, it has to be said, from would-be fangbangers. Zoolander aside, the towering Swede first came to our attention as Sergeant Brad “Iceman” Colbert in the exceptional Iraq war miniseries Generation Kill, adapted from Evan Wright’s book by The Wire alumni David Simon and Ed Burns. But it wasn’t until his turn as the broodingly menacing 1,000-year-old vampire sheriff Eric Northman in another HBO must-see, True Blood, that we really bit. A peripheral but compelling presence in season one, Eric comes to the fore with arguably the most satisfying character arc in season two, currently airing on Channel 4 ( season three has just finished in the States).
According to Skarsgardnews.com, Alexander will be in Stockholm on October 2nd at a live auction to help support his beloved football team Hammarby.
He wrote them an email that states:

Bajen Aid is organizing a live auction in Stockholm on October 2nd in order to try to raise some money and hopefully save our beloved little football club Hammarby. I will be there in person with some memorabilia from True Blood, Straw Dogs etc.

WASHINGTON, Sept. 23 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — SOS Children’s Villages, a global organization dedicated to the long-term care and prevention of orphaned and abandoned children, today announced that Alexander Skarsgard has helped raise over $35,000 for their programs.
Thanks to Mr. Skarsgard’s efforts, the majority of the funds were directly donated through the SOS web site. The auction of two True Blood television scripts on eBay – each one personally annotated and autographed by Mr. Skarsgard – brought in additional funds.
The donations to SOS Children’s Villages were the culmination of a good-natured, fundraising competition between Mr. Skarsgard and fellow True Blood cast member Stephen Moyer. Mr. Moyer’s supporters raised funds for the Gulf Relief Foundation.
“We are so privileged to have Alexander Skarsgard as a supporter of SOS,” said Heather Paul, CEO of SOS Children’s Villages – USA. “His commitment to SOS has raised awareness of the plight of orphaned and abandoned children. Through encouraging his fans to donate to SOS, we have raised thousands of dollars to help many in need, and we are grateful to Alexander for his contributions.”
Mr. Skarsgard’s career in the United States has most recently included a highly popular role as Eric Northman on True Blood.
