Peter Berg (Hancock) produces and directs Battleship, an epic action-adventure that unfolds across the seas, in the skies and over land as our planet fights for survival against a superior force. Based on Hasbro’s classic naval combat game, Battleship stars Taylor Kitsch as Lt. Alex Hopper, a Naval officer assigned to the USS John Paul Jones; Brooklyn Decker as Sam Shane, a physical therapist and Hopper’s fiancée; Alexander Skarsgård as Hopper’s older brother, Stone, Commanding Officer of the USS Sampson; Rihanna as Petty Officer Raikes, Hopper’s crewmate and a weapons specialist on the USS John Paul Jones; and international superstar Liam Neeson as Hopper and Stone’s superior (and Sam’s father), Admiral Shane.
Berg directs this epic action-adventure also produced by Scott Stuber (Couples Retreat), Sarah Aubrey (The Kingdom), Brian Goldner and Bennett Schneir of Hasbro (the Transformers franchise), along with Duncan Henderson (Master and Commander).

You would think someone sank Universal’s Battleship with the lack of publicity and information that’s been released for the big epic film due in theaters next May. The film was a no-show at Comic-Con which seemed like the perfect place to debut the first footage about a movie based on a board game that involves battleships, alien invaders, and a star from HBO’s True Blood.
As Comic-Con ends, the Battleship PR machine has awoken. The official website for the film is now live and features a sonar that is tracking a countdown. If I’m reading it right, a big reveal is coming this Wednesday, July 27 at 12pm EST/9am PST.
Say goodbye to the big hair, girls!
“I don’t really think about that very much. It’s quite different from the board game, obviously,” he said with a smile. “Pete is a great guy — the director, Peter Berg — and I’m just excited to start it, I really am.” Skarsgård added that he flies to Hawaii this week to begin production.
Asked whether the film will feature any gratuitous shots of him and his co-stars running around battleships, looking pretty with big guns, Skarsgård was unsure. “I play a commander of one of the destroyers in the Navy, so, that’s a big gun,” he offered.
The topic of big guns brought up the current 3-D trend — will fans get their first three-dimensional look at Skarsgård in the flick? “No,” he said. “I don’t think so.”
“Battleship” is set for release May 25, 2012.
Alexander Skarsgard has landed a starring role in the upcoming film “Battleship.” The sci-fi film is being produced by Universal and is an adaptation of the popular Hasbro board game.
Skarsgard will star alongside Taylor Kitsch in the action-adventure movie that has a twist of sci-fi added in for a fresh feel. The film follows an international fleet that is assembled to battle an alien naval armada from another universe. Skarsgard will play the role of a straightforward naval officer who is idolized by his wild-hearted brother, Kitsch. “Hancock” director Peter Berg is in charge behind the camera on the film, with the script having been written by Jon and Erich Hoeber.
Skarsgard’s role in “Battleship” will be his first major studio film in America. He has done movies in his native Sweden before and made his first impression on American audiences in HBO’s “Generation Kill.” He currently wows audiences with his role as a vampire sheriff on “True Blood.” airing on HBO.
