Alexander Skarsgård Creates His Own Mini-Söder In LA
Story by Katarina Matsson

Alexander Skarsgård has become a real Hollywood star, but he doesn’t think he will lose control. Now he’s recreating his own Söder in Los Angeles – and he’s happy with being single.
Alexander Skarsgård is tanned. That happens when you live in Los Angeles, he explains. He’s still looking for a place to live in Venice Beach, where his colleges and friends from True Blood, Stephen Moyer and Anna Paquin, already are living.
– It’s one of the few areas where you actually can walk. I grew up on Söder and I am accustomed to having my friends living in the neighborhood and that we gather at our favorite places and I miss that. So I’m trying to recreate a mini Söder in Venice.
He does one of the voices in the Swedish animated dystopia Metropia which premieres this Friday.
– I believe I was the first one to record my part. When I saw it the first time there was a 3 minute long scene between me and my dad. He did his voice two months after I did mine, so it felt very absurd.
Ironically he moving to the USA has meant that he’s being offered better roles in Sweden.
– Yes. Five years ago no casting agent would have placed me in a Swedish Generation Kill. I was sort of the high School kid.
Another project which he has wrapped recently is Johan Kling’s – one of the best directors in Scandinavia according to the actor – second film Puss. He’s younger brother Gustaf also has a part in the movie, but they don’t have any scenes together.
– We are not actively looking to do projects together, but it would be a lot of fun. I would like to work with both my dad and my two
brothers who are actors. The stuff that has been presented to us hasn’t been that interesting. But it will happen.
Since moving he’s gone from unemployed to being a celebrity. The attention he’s getting is more intense on the other side of the Atlantic.
– You take your car everywhere in LA, so you sit there in your metallic bubble. But absolutely, after the second season of True
Blood I did notice a change. Of course I notice stuff that is written about me sometimes, but I never read fan sites or blogs. I don’t think it’s good for me to do that. If it’s very negative I know it will stick in my head. Or if a read a lot of positive stuff it will probably blow up my ego so it explodes.
Have you turned into a diva?
– You have to ask my friends. Nothing would hurt me as much as if one of them told me that I have changed. But I don’t think I have. I was past 30 when things started to happen in the USA.
Also rumors are flourishing, about Alexander and co-stars Evan Rachel Wood and Kate Bosworth.
– There’s not a young woman I know in Hollywood who I haven’t been attached to. But that’s what happens if I share a cab with a girl we are practically married.
How is your love life?
– It looks good. I’m not in a relationship.
But it looks good?
– Haha, are you asking if I’m getting laid? Not really, there’s not been much of that.
Alexander Skarsgård about…
… Kate Bosworth, co-star in Straw Dogs: She’s unbelievably strong in this movie. She really went for it and took a risk. I have a lot of respect for her; there are a lot of gorgeous women in Hollywood who wouldn’t have the guts to do that. She’s very intelligent and a really cool girl. We are very good friends.
… Lady Gaga, co-star in the music video Paparazzi: I don’t know her, we worked together for one day. It was crazy. She’s a bit forced, but she’s also very clever. We had great time.
… Stephen Moyer, co-star in True Blood: Stephen is one of the actors I’ve been working with the most and we have gotten to know each other very well. He’s a lot of fun, wonderful British humor, and really relaxed. He’s a very good friend.
… Evan Rachel Wood, co-star in a few episodes of True Blood: She’s one of the best actresses of her generation, extremely good. I believe she will be one of the greatest in her generation. She’s very young, only 22 years old.
… Perez Hilton, who blogs appreciatively about him: I don’t know him. I suppose its fun him doing his thing and that people like it. I don’t really know, I have no relation to him at all. But apparently there’s something about him because a lot of people seem to relate to what he does.
